Dr. Elizabeth Lonergan, PT, DPT understands the specific needs of dancers and is dedicated to a comprehensive treatment method to assist in rehabilitating and preventing injuries. She is a classically trained dancer in the Cechetti method, giving her a strong foundation in ballet technique, artistry, dance theory, and anatomy of the dancer. She received advanced education in dance, anatomy, and biomechanics at New Mexico State University, where she was a member of the Contemporary Dance Theater. Here she was able to expand her knowledge of dance to many different styles including modern, jazz, contemporary, ballroom, and flamenco. Upon graduation from NMSU with her BA in Kinesiology and Minors in Dance technique education, and psychology Elizabeth moved to Albuquerque to pursue her doctorate in physical therapy. During graduate school, Elizabeth danced professionally with Ballet Repertory Theater of New Mexico. Following completion of her DPT Elizabeth completed dance specific physical therapy training with Marika Molnar, the physical therapy provider for New York City Ballet and School of American Ballet. Here she was able to broaden and tailor her skills to work specifically with dancers of all styles, ages, and skill levels. She has also completed coursework with NYU’s Harkness Center for Dance Injuries and attended educational lectures at the International Association of Dance Medicine annual conference. She holds professional memberships with IADMs (International Association of Dance Medicine), NSCA (National strength and Conditioning Association), and PAMA (Performing Arts Medical Association).
